Sondheim Festival in Kilkenny, 22-24 July 2022
The Watergate Theatre in Kilkenny, Ireland, will play host in July to The Sondheim Festival, a two-day celebration of Sondheim and his collaborators.
According to the event's Twitter announcements:
Paint your own piece of amazing art inspired by Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George - under the guidance of our guest artist, whilst sipping on a glass of bubbles! (3-5pm, Saturday 23 July)
"Singing Sondheim 1:1" - a day-long performance masterclass by Musical Director and Conductor Cathal Synnott (10 am-6.30 pm on Saturday 23 July)
Enjoy pitting your wits against friends, family and fellow theatre lovers in "The Great Big Musical Theatre Quiz" hosted by Ireland AM’s celebrity chef and theatre aficionado, Edward Hayden.
Join us as we walk "Into the Woods" at Kilkenny Castle Park on a sunny Sunday morning! Kids (and big kids!) are invited to dress as their favourite fairy tale character to help support Ireland’s national children’s cancer charity, Aoibheann’s Pink Tie.
Award-winning Kilkenny-based Michelle Treacy Millinery is delighted to collaborate with The Sondheim Festival on "Finishing The Hat", with an insightful, fun and interesting demonstration.
"I Know Things Now": Cathal Synnott explores how Stephen Sondheim has been represented on the Irish stage, and shares his personal experiences of working on some of Sondheim’s greatest creations at The Gate Theatre.
Fresh from conducting West Side Story In Concert at Bord Gais Energy Theatre, David Hayes, one of Ireland’s leading Musical Directors in Music Theatre, leads a choral workshop and explores the iconic finale to Sunday in the Park with George.
Tony Award® nominee and Emmy winner Liz Callaway will close The Sondheim Festival with a gala concert, In Good Company: Liz Callaway Sings Sondheim (8 pm, Sunday 24)
