Richard Gere pays a visit to Antonio Banderas' GYPSY in Malaga
Hollywood legend Richard Gere popped in to meet the cast of the Sondheim-Styne musical Gypsy, currently playing at the Teatro del Soho CaixaBank in Malaga this week.
This is the theatre that boasts fellow Hollywood star Antonio Banderas as the Artistic Director. It's the actor's fourth musical production as director - and the theatre's fifth overall - and it stars Marta Ribera (Joanne in Banderas' Company) as the ultimate showbiz mom, Rose. Company Musical Director Arturo Díez Boscovich also returns to lead the 24-piece orchestra.
"Although I don't understand everything in Spanish," said Gere, "I loved the show."
The run at Malaga finishes on 12 January before decamping to the Apollo Theatre in Madrid on 7 February until 23 March. There, sharing the stage with legend Ribera is Lydia Fairen as Louise/Gypsy and Laia Prats as June. The 29-strong cast also includes Carlos Segui (Herbie/Mr Jock), Aaron Cobos (Tulsa), Carmen Conesa (Tessie), Marta Valverde (Mazeppa) and Lorena Caler/Sonia Gascon (Electra).
