V&A: Sondheim's "The Hills of Tomorrow"

Listen to the finalists of SSSSPOTY singing "The Hills of Tomorrow" and "Merrily We Roll Along" at the V&A this weekend. In a series of pop-up performances around the vast London museum, finalists from SSSSPOTY and this year's intake from the National Youth Music Theatre (NYMT) performed numbers from Stephen Sondheim's Merrily We Roll Along and Cole Porter's Kiss Me, Kate.

Here (left to right), Ed Cooke, James Stirling (SSSSPOTY 2018 runner-up), Caitlyn Allen, Ella Shepherd (2022 runner-up) and Jade Oswald (2022 third place) are accompanied by John Haslam in the glorious Chancel Chapel from the Church of Santa Chiara in Florence - the only Italian Renaissance chapel that can be seen outside of Italy. Later in the day, Ella Shepherd retured to sing "I Read" from Sondheim's Italy-based musical Passion.

NYMT will be staging both Merrily and Kiss Me, Kate as part of their summer offering this year. For more details, visit nymt.org.uk/

The 2023 Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year competition will be staged on Sunday 11th June at the Sondheim Theatre in Shaftesbury Avenue. Click here to book.
