The Stephen Sondheim Society will be back at the Royal Academy of Music on 7th October for another day-long Brush Up Your Sondheim (BUYS), this time with a focus on Sondheim's contribution to TV and cinema.
This day of lectures and workshops runs from 11am to 6pm and will feature a keynote address from the Royal Opera House's John Snelson. Afterwards, the day will split into two strands, and will include:
Acting Through Song masterclasses with Bryan Husband (Trinity Laban Conservatoire) aimed at students of Musical Theatre
Evening Primrose, a talk by Ben Francis (Goldsmiths)
Q&A with Jayne Wisener, who played Johanna in Tim Burton’s movie of Sweeney Todd
From The Muppets to My Little Pony: An A–Z of Sondheim on Screen, by Craig Glenday, Chair of The Stephen Sondheim Society
Sondheim in London, by David Lardi, Editor of Sondheim The Magazine
More names/talks to be announced.
The event costs £50 for adults and £20 for students and members of Equity and the Musicians' Union. All funds go towards the running of the event, and supporting the staging of the annual Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year competition, aka SSSSPOTY, which celebrates the best young performers in the UK.
