Sondheim's Extraordinary Women in Lichfield
Yesterday's performance of Send in the Clowns: Sondheim's Extraordinary Women at the Lichfield Garrick was a great success for all concerned and was met by a standing ovation.
Experienced stars Charlotte Page, Beverely Klein and Nigel Richards were joined by SSSSSPOTY 2014 winner Corrine Priest and – under the expert musical direction of Jason Carr – gave us a feast of Sondheim, celebrating the women featured in the composer-lyricist's show. Both solo and ensemble numbers showed everyone off to their best advantage, and included a few comparative rarities among the otherwise "best-of" set list.
More than just a concert, Send in the Clowns was effortlessly staged by Jari Laakso so that each number flowed seamlessly into the next.
It was good to see so many Society members in attendance who, afterwards over a free drink, were able to mingle with the artists. Here's to the next one!
