A bit of Sondheim at the Wigmore Hall
The internationally acclaimed soprano/mezzo-soprano Dame Felicity Palmer – who played the role of Mrs Lovett in the Royal Opera House Production of Sweeney Todd in 2003 – is giving a recital at London's Wigmore Hall that will feature a couple of Sondheim numbers.
Dame Felicity played opposite Thomas Allen as the monstrous and love-struck pie-maker in the ROH's first ever musical. "Palmer sings with unfailing musicality," said Rupert Christiansen in The Telegraph of her performance at Covent Garden. "She doesn't cheat on the notes... it's plain good artistry." The Independent, meanwhile, called her "a tour de force as Mrs Lovett".
The mixed programme will include songs from Purcell, Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Horowitz and Sondheim, with pianist Simon Lepper providing the accompaniment. To book, click here for the Wigmore Hall box office.
